Prescription hearing aids that use head-motion sensors and a deep neural network to read listening intent
What it is
Oticon Intent is a prescription receiver-in-canal hearing aid line from Danish manufacturer Oticon (part of Demant). It combines onboard 4D sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) that track head and body movement with a deep neural network trained on real-world sound scenes. The two are combined to infer whether the wearer is actively engaged in conversation or passively listening, and to adjust directionality and noise reduction automatically without a manual program switch. It is fitted and programmed by a licensed audiologist using Oticon's Genie fitting software, and paired day-to-day with the Oticon ON smartphone app for streaming, remote adjustments and battery status.
