What it is
Sound Notifications is a built-in Android accessibility feature, pre-installed on Pixel phones and available on other supported Android devices via the 'Live Transcribe & Notifications' app on Google Play. It uses on-device machine learning models to continuously listen through the phone's microphone for around nine to ten household sound categories, including smoke/fire alarms, sirens, baby crying, dog barking, knocking, doorbells, appliance beeping and running water, and can be extended with custom-recorded sounds. When a sound is detected, the phone can show a push notification, flash the camera light, or vibrate. All processing happens on-device; Google states audio never leaves the phone.
