What it is
TalkBack is the screen reader built into Android and distributed free via Google Play. Since TalkBack 13.0 it has included native support for connecting a refreshable Braille display over Bluetooth, without needing the older, separate BrailleBack app. Since TalkBack 16.0/17.0 it also includes a generative-AI 'Describe image' action — and, on Pixel 9 and later phones, fully automatic image descriptions — that uses Google's Gemini models to produce a detailed description of whatever image is in focus, alongside Android's older rule-based image labelling.
