What it is
Amazon Alexa is a cloud-based conversational voice assistant built into Amazon Echo smart speakers and displays, and available for free on the Alexa smartphone app. Among its general-purpose capabilities, users can set one-off or recurring reminders entirely by voice (for example, 'Alexa, remind me to take my medication every day at 8pm'), which Alexa will speak aloud and, on screen-equipped devices, display at the scheduled time. Alexa also supports voice-activated timers, routines and third-party medication-tracking skills.
