Aira (Aira Explorer)

On-demand visual interpreting with a text/Braille-readable mode, whose real-world Deaf-blind usability is decidedly mixed
What it is
Aira is a subscription service connecting blind and low-vision users to trained human visual interpreters on demand, via live video call from a smartphone camera or Aira-compatible smart glasses. Interpreters describe surroundings, read documents, and assist with tasks in real time; Aira has also begun layering in AI features branded 'Aira AI Powered by Project Astra' for automated visual answers alongside the human-agent service. Interactions can be started as a live call or as a text-chat conversation within the Aira Explorer app, with a checkbox option indicating the user cannot speak aloud.
